Day 29 Land Tour Day 5 Flight to Ayers Rock, Field of Lights
Early start today. We have to be downstairs by 5:30 in the morning. They're going to give us a boxed breakfast to go. It has a croissant, a yogurt, apple juice, a hard green apple, and a granola bar. Nothing dried last night, so we packed damp clothes in our bags, but we are traveling to a desert so it should all dry today.
But there were so many flies that drove Paul and I crazy. We think they should have provided us bug nets or at least have it on the equipment list that we should have brought with us. We're going to try to buy some tonight. We saw termite mounds.
Google Lens identifies it as a crested pigeon. We got some Pringles at the small grocery store. There is only one out here, so you're kinda captive. Joi got BBQ flavor, Paul got plain.
It's raining for our departure, of course. To use their entertainment, you had to have already downloaded the Qantas app which we did not know to do. There is no internet on the plane to do it.
We arrived in Uluru or Ayers Rock, and it is spitting rain here, too. It is on the verge of being cold, haven't quite pulled out my jacket yet. Misty says Violet's ultrasound was normal and they will go home tomorrow. The town of Uluru is tiny, only 1500 people. There is our resort, a small hotel, a campground, and apartments for residents.
We stopped for a distant view of Kata Tjuta and had a little walk.
Tonight, we go see a light show setup in the desert.
The checkin process at the hotel was very slow. So, Adriana told us to go ahead and have lunch, and she would bring us our key. We finished lunch and still had no key. We bought our bug nets and came back to the lobby and met her to get our key from her. We went back to our room and spread out all of our laundry inside and outside to help it dry; everything we own is wet from Cairns.
We walked back to the shopping complex and saw a bird.
The Field of Light show. Field of lights is 49,000 square meters 38 kilometers of optical fiber, and 50,000 lights. Opened to the public in 2016 by an English artist named Munro. It was really cool! We went at about 7:00p.m. and stayed until 9. Watched the sunset, then got to wander through the lights.
