Day 17 Cruise Day 6 Dunedin Port
Just for the record, it is pronounced "Dunn-knee-din".
Today we have a train ride.
We have a bus ride to the train station, and we noticed a lovely bike path all along the water of the harbor which is from an ancient volcano that blew out one side. We were told this train depot is one of the most photographed in the world.
The train is set up in tables of 4, with two people facing forward and two riding backwards. We are supposed to switch positions at the midpoint of the journey, but we will see.
There was a convenient souvenir stop setup by the locals at the point where they have to switch the engine to the other side of the train. We supported some local kids who had a sign saying they are saving for a trip to Canada and bought some chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were 2 for $5 NZ, so we gave them 3 20-dollar coins, so we could get rid of some of our NZ dollars, and help them out a little in the process. I call that a win-win. We switched sides of the train for the ride back but now I have to ride backwards. The couple across from us would not let me sit on the other side. I moved to an open seat that was riding forward.
Evening show is called 'The Secret Silk' and it included some marionettes.
